Quick Sunday night (and maybe Monday and Tuesday) sale is happening now, because I have inconvenient bills that could use some convenient sales.

35% off a lot of things.
Done when the bills are covered.
Have fun!

A bunch of different things fighting for the same real estate on the face, yeah.

I put it up or braid it in self-defense these days. Dang stuff is practically prehensile.

10/ Instead of centering men who missed the boat (and still don't seem to get it), let's lift up the work of Paulina Borsook, who saw it all very clearly and tried to warn us 25 years ago.

Someone should do a profile of her very interesting life. And hey, let's drop some cash into her GoFundme!

9/ I had launch with Paulina Borsook last month in Oakland. Her life is hard, but she still has a lot to say! She's trying to raise funds to get a new version of the book reissued on the Internet Archive.

Some of her friends have a running GoFundMe to support her:

THREAD.
(And Paulina Borsook has indeed had a very interesting life.)

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

You buying one thing from the wrong company doesn't wreck the effort. They don't care about you as an individual. If there's no realistic alternative, you're not destroying the whole picture by giving them a few bucks when you have to.

Just know there are often more alternatives than you think.

A lot of people treat boycotts like dieting. If you "mess up" once you may as well eat a whole cake.

Remember that financial pressure is about large trends. More people spending less money. You're just one part of a larger effort. Do your best; reduce your dependence on the worst of the worst.

If you're tired and need a hug today, I'd like to offer this story of mine. It's about a haunted house so lonely that it promises it'll behave if anyone will just live in it.

@naomikritzer.bsky.social's deeply satisfying take: "Jacob Frey is a deeply performative empty suit who literally runs away from hard questions. He’s also genuinely terrible at working with the City Council, terrible at collective problem solving, and terrible at overseeing the Minneapolis police."
Election 2025: Minneapolis Mayoral Race (the four contenders)
There are fifteen people running for Minneapolis mayor. You only have to worry about four of them, and this post will talk about those four. If you want to know more about all the others, that is i…

LionessElise sends you Friday greetings.

The hairbrush in my hand points to the longest bit of my hair, which is now between my hip and my knee somewhere. Closer to the latter, these days.
A fat white person who looks a bit tired but amiable is taking a mirror selfie documenting their cascade of silvered bronze hair (tending more to grey than bronze in this photo) which is now down well past their hip. They are wearing loose blue gathered trousers with gigantic low pockets, and a light blue gauze tunic with lantern sleeves. The outfit looks to be chosen for comfort, and it is indeed comfortable. Nearby is a turquoise banner that says DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.

I can't do millennial complaints, but my most GenX complaint is that cynicism should not be an excuse to roll over or tell others to quit.

It's the armor you need to continue to fight when you know you won't be the one to benefit from it.

Yeah, we're fucked.

Now get your hands dirty.

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

LionessElise sends you slightly belated Wednesday greetings.
A fat white person with pulled-back silvered bronze hair and black Fluevog boots, wearing a grey overalls skirt and a grey tshirt, is taking a mirror selfie near a turquoise banner that says DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. They look awake but tired, yet reasonably amiable.
