Genuinely curious, how obvious is it for someone to make out an American in a crowd of foreigners? This wasn't the first time someone in the UK asked me if I was an American (actually am not 😭). I hope I wasn't being too obnoxious... Could have been my accent. Do I even have an accent?

Oh! His name comes from Bidār (Persian for ‘awake’), with a Indo-Iranic prefix his father added, "Vi" (along the lines of separation, apartness, the between). So he's literally named for that space between two worlds!

True true, like LeGuin said, a lot of academic or theoretical writing hides behind complex jargon and performative intellect. My favorite kind of books combine both poetic honesty and academia.

I'm in London now for my brother's graduation, and he's taking me to the big Waterstones! Meanwhile, I've been sending the little one my old books in Ulaanbaatar. Oh how I love returning to the bookish ways!

So now I'm at 20+ this year! It may not be that impressive compared to others' lists, but I'm very proud of myself. It's time to ease my written language back into poetic proses... after having been writing in academia for so long.

And while I've only challenged myself to finish 5 books this year, I've already gotten ahead of myself and fly through almost a book a day. And the numbers of finished books grew as fast as it used to back when I still tick 'reading' as a personality boxes on online quizzes.

I'm so relieved to find that I truly still enjoy reading after seven years of college and exclusively textbook reading. I had no time at all to dwell in fiction like I used to as an early teenager, but right after graduation, my body automatically jumped right back into reading.

オリジナル怪獣、添付怪獣ハリーペッタスの詳細紹介イラスト。この画像の中心に描かれている怪獣は、手足や鼻の先、顎やしっぽに、刷毛のような毛が生えている、バクのような顔をした、2足歩行の怪獣、という感じであろうか。ただ、この文章だけではよくわからないと思うので、これから詳しく各部位の形状を説明をしていこうと思う。ではまず頭部から。顔は、前述した通り、バクっぽい顔をしている。ただ、そんなに似てるわけでもなく、鼻先がある程度長い、という点から例えただけである。実際の形状は、鼻先はかなり太く、また、頬はぷっくり膨らんでおり、おでこも平たくなく、上に少し盛り上がっている。体色はペールオレンジ。顔の側面に付いている目は、つぶらで黒い。耳などは見当たらず、口もイラストでは見えていない。また、顎には、ブラシのように先が均一に整っている、茶色い髭がたっぷりと生えており、また、鼻先にも、同様のブラシの毛のような髭が生えている。色は茶色。そして、頭頂部だが、そこには、緑色の長い角が１本生えており、先端部が前方に曲がっている。その先っぽには、穴が１つ開いている。イラストでは、そこから、黄緑色の粘着性のある雫が1滴垂れている描写がされている。また、その角の、折れ曲がった辺りのすぐ下に、喉ぼとけのように盛り上がった突起が目立つように１つある。以上で頭部の説明を終わる。次は胴体。胴体は、茶色く硬い外骨格で、上から段々と重なった感じに覆われている。これは、側面と前面で分かれており、それぞれで、上から段になって、重なっている。ただ前面のお腹の部分は、肌が露出している。色は顔と同じく、ペールオレンジ。また、背中には、首元からお尻にかけて、管状の長い、盛り上がった、硬質の部位が、背骨に沿って３つくっ付いて並んでおり、その背骨としっぽの付け根をカバーするような感じになっている。色は、上と下が胴体と同じ茶色。中央部は、薄い深緑色になっている。これで胴体の説明は終わる。では次は、せっかくなので、しっぽの説明をしておこう。しっぽは細くて長い。先は丸く膨らんでいる。色は黒。このしっぽの、中央部から先端にかけて、薄いグレーの、先端が切りそろえられたような、刷毛のような毛が、ふっさり生えている。以上でしっぽの説明は終わる。では最後に脚の説明をする。まず前脚だが、こちらも、茶色い外骨格で、前腕部、上腕部と覆われている。また、間接にあたる部分、肩や肘には、深緑色のカバーがされている。そしてその前脚の先、人でいうところの手の部分は丸く、そこから、湾曲した細い鉤爪のような部位が、左右側面に１本ずつ、その間に１本、計３本生えている。先端部分は丸く膨らんでいる。色は金色。手の色は白。また、その手の下からは、こちらも他の部位にあるものと同様、毛先が揃えられた、デッキブラシのブラシ部分のような毛が、たっぷりと生えている。色は黄土色。以上で前脚の説明は終わり、次は後ろ脚の説明をする。後ろ脚も、前脚同様に、複数の外骨格で覆われているのだが、色はグレーとなっている。膝の辺りには、膝カバーのような外骨格も見える。そして脚先は割と大きめで、色は茶色。その足底は厚く盛り上がっており、色は黒くなっている。その足底の後ろ半分には、前脚同様の、毛先が揃えられた、デッキブラシのブラシ部分のような、黄土色の毛が生えている。そして、足の前半分には、円柱の黒い物体が２本、並んでいるのが見えるのだが、こちらは身体の部位ではなく、このような形状の石のような物、と考えられる。脚底の前部分が、他より厚めなので、そこと、踵のブラシとで、挟み込んでいるものと解釈している。これで形状の説明は全て終わる。イラストでは、しゃがんで、左膝を立て、右前脚を上げ、その上げた手の先の毛束から出ている、黄緑色の粘着性のある液体を使って、画面を上から縦に塗っている描写がされている。また、体のあちこちに、この黄緑色の液体が複数付いている描写がされている。そして、その怪獣の周りには、四角い吹き出しがあり、そこに簡単な説明が書かれている。→「口や前脚先等から粘着性の液体を出しその先の毛に染みこませて色んな物を貼る習性がある」また、頭部の角の先を指して、「ここからも粘着性の液体が出るよ」や、足先を指し、「足からは粘着物質は出ない」「足裏のローラーのようなものは円柱状の鉱石と思われる」等の説明もある。バック背景は、キャンパス地に、赤や黄色、オレンジの色が、平筆で縦横に塗ったような感じで描かれており、所々に、ピンクやオレンジ、青や緑の絵の具を垂らしてしまったような跡が描かれている。また、その上に、水色や紫、黄色などの大小の石が、複数色んな所に貼られている描写がされている。
