where am i?
About 8 years ago I planted two witch hazels var “Diane”, a hybrid with red blooms in February. One of them had some shoots up out of the middle branches, and they’re blooming yellow, in November? Is this native rootstock sending up growth? I’m baffled.

Supposedly there are 24 hours in a day. Did I lose some somewhere? (I know the answer is “in my commute” but it’s v v v important that I commute to the office 5 days a week)

Can I talk them into adding a weight lifting car to the train so I can multitask?

I’ve been reading and listening to a lot of books and podcasts and websites on perimenopause, and it’s been a relief to hear that lifting heavy stuff if the most important thing you can do to keep yourself physically and mentally sharp. Luckily I’m already on this train!

I wish I had as much time to lift on weekdays.

I kicked my own ass. OTOH, heavy squats felt amazing. Now to do a lot of yard work and wreck my back raking leaves :(

Once, I felt my body sing in glorious chorus doing heavy deadlifts. Now, light ones are a cautious single note. Slowly, slowly…

I wanted to spend my Saturday morning playing this game, not waiting 2 hours for an update :(

The only good thing about the trash mulberry tree covering everything in rotting purple smears right now… (gin, chartreuse, lemon, and mulberries, with a radish sprout for garnish)

Haven’t been very consistent this week… my shoulder is angry and work was busy. But adding weight to the bar still feels good.

Yesterday I did some more deadlifts and played with the eclipse.

I also learned that eclipses are a sacred time to many Native people, and there are a variety of practices to honor that time: ictnews.org/news/eclipse...

Squats felt connected this morning, individual parts harmonizing.

Workout powered by this epic playlist, and mindset by this quote.

I’m feeling a reset today after surviving a rough couple weeks.

Putting the big plates on the bar for bench felt great. It’s been a minute.

and this quote from Marcus Aurelius is resonating with me as I work towards a deep unfuckening. What stands in the way, becomes the way.

I’m lazy and didn’t fix my tracker. But today was my first deadlift in months, careful singles with the lightest big plate I have and my best attempt at a mindful focus on form. I guess I’ll see if it aggravates my Prima Donna lower back again.

Fitting in a workout first thing in the morning and then commuting to the office is both a mood booster (because it’s done) but also cranky-making (why am I up at 5:30am to pick up heavy things and then put them down again)

I guess Bluesky only lets you attach 4 photos to a post, but I’ve been on a hot streak with Tuesday-Saturday lifting this week. Plus yoga class on Thursday!
