I used BearBlog's MS-DOS theme as a starting point. Hopefully most people don't find it to be too obtuse or confusing, although it definitely still needs some more work in a few places

It's honestly kind of surprising they were able to stick by that notion for over a decade.

That's possible, but it's also a cardinal sin of typography, and one you'd think MS wouldn't commit. Then again, they also created Comic Sans.
Usually, condensed and expanded font variants consist of a separate set of glyphs redrawn to properly fit within a slimmer or wider space.

I tried this as well as 5 other font identifier sites, and asked a couple different AIs, only to get dubious and wildly inconsistent results. I figured I'd ask in the hopes that someone out there actually knows...

It looks close to a condensed version of Times New Roman, but on close inspection it's not quite the same, and I don't think an ultra-condensed version of TNR even exists formally...

Depending on the MacBook this might actually be the native resolution; pixel art and lower-bit graphics will look better, meaning you're better off anyway.
