Last week my 1st grad student started tagging walleye for her project. She'll be tracking these fish with acoustic telemetry to learn about their movements & habitat use in Watts Bar Reservoir. It's been awesome to see her bringing this project together - research as a #newPI just hit different ☺️

I'm glad we were able to get this work published. A huge part of this effort was Chris Vandergoot, the director of GLATOS, who passed away suddenly in Sept. I want to again acknowledge Chris's work on improving telemetry projects and how they are used in management across the Great Lakes & beyond.

Based on our results, we suggest that either method is acceptable for immobilizing lake whitefish for telemetry studies! Logistically, we found the use of the TENS unit to be easier for our field operations, but that would be dependent on the research needs and species.....

Finally made the jump over here from that other app - excited to reconnect with the science/fish social media world! For those that don't know me, I'm an assistant professor at UT-Knoxville interested in all things fish movement & fisheries management. #fisheries #fishsci #telemetry
