Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

On this day in 1835, Missouri enacted a law requiring free Black residents to obtain a license to remain in the state. Those who did not faced fines, imprisonment, and expulsion from Missouri.

In some cases, photos seemed to be flagged for removal simply because their file included the word “gay,” including service members with that last name and an image of the B-29 aircraft Enola Gay, which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II.
War heroes, military firsts and the Enola Gay are among 26,000 Pentagon images flagged for removal in DEI purge
References to a World War II Medal of Honor recipient, the Enola Gay aircraft that dropped an atomic bomb on Japan and women and minorities are among the tens of thousands of photos and online posts…

Jamie & I had a lovely time representing SLPL at today’s SLACO conference, meeting folks, learning stuff, & hearing “I LOVE the Library!” over & over. Feeling a little warm & fuzzy/less despondent. Act locally, organize, know your neighbor, vote, read a book, the world will be a better place✌️🩷🏡🚲📚✊

Feeling snarky (come on STL - 18%??) but not giving up. There’s a LWV-hosted school board candidate forum this Sunday 3/9 from 2-4 at Central, & the voter registration deadline for the next round is Wed 3/12, then we do it all again 4/8. Early voting starts 3/25. Join us? 🤨🩷🗳️✊

“There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” I saw this Elie Wiesel quote on a FB page & checked to make sure it WAS a Wiesel quote.

Blue skies indeed. Acknowledge this weather in Feb isn’t normal/right - but neither was the horrible frigid weather earlier this month & last - so yay blue skies.

Trump: We are the federal law. You better do it because you’re not going to get any federal funds.

Here is the clip from ‘Waterloo’ which ends with the same line Trump used this morning - it is speech in which Napoleon asserts, “I did not usurp the crown,” because he picked it out of the gutter and the people put it on his head:

As I straddle the FB/Bluesky divide, wanted to also share here with any who don't know that I am the proud, happy (& necessarily terrified) Mom of a trans daughter. I forced myself to reread the Jan. 20 Executive Order that attempts to claim that our daughter doesn't exist, but I call bullshit.
