What a shameful question.

First, it is not what Congress "asked for." It is what a federal statute REQUIRES.

Second, WTF does "spirit but not intent" even mean?

CBS bent a knee and paid Trump, it has a new owner who wants to please Trump, and sadly this is the result.
BRENNAN: This isn't everything you asked for just yet, but would you acknowledge that they are complying with the spirit if not the intent of your law?

MASSIE: No. They're flouting the spirit and the letter of the law. It's very troubling the posture that they've taken.

No one is going to tune in to CBS because they know it won’t be critical of Trump but lots of people will tune out for that reason. Spiking the CECOT story to curry favor is a terrible moral and journalistic decision — but it’s also a terrible business decision.

The story is insane. The acting head of cyber security, a Noem crony, repeatedly demanded to see highly classified information he didn’t need access to, and when staff set up a lie detector test as a condition to grant him access, he failed it. So DHS suspended the staffers.

It's no joke: Trump just announced he's made Landry a special envoy to Greenland. Trump used weasel-words to explain why - "Jeff understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security" - but Landry's dumb enough to just say it: "to make Greenland part of the US". Attacking a NATO ally. 2/

Landry was Trump's henchman in 2020 and still is. In 2020 he sent robo-calls to draw the mob to DC on Jan 6. He was meant to front the main suit to overthrow the electoral vote. (Ken Paxton of TX did it.) Paxton & Landry were the key state AGs helping Trump's coup. 3/

The state AGs who helped with Jan 6 are still with us. Landry (#2) is trying to seize Greenland. Paxton (#1) is running for TX Senate. And Andrew Bailey, successor to MO AG Eric Schmitt (#3), who carried on Schmitt's work, is now Deputy Director of the FBI. God help us. 4/

But Bari Weiss killing the 60 Minutes story about Trump sending innocent immigrants to CECOT is only part of the story

Bari Weiss is the logical endpoint of corporate media. This is what happens when people who hate journalism are in charge of it. The only way journalism works is when it’s independent from the power it’s supposed to hold to account, which means ownership can’t have anything to do with those in power

Censoring a story about the outsourced regime gulag is not consistent with freedom of speech. But it is consistent with the belief that “free speech” is when conservatives can say what they want and when you can say what they want.

What's so frustrating in this moment of explicit government censorship is how many times groups like the ACLU and others told us they _had_ to defend neo nazis because of the principle of free speech. Now that fascists are in power, none of those principles are protecting marginalized groups.
