Promoter of non market housing, collaborator for a more just & joyful world. Former MLA for Halifax Needham (2016-2021), two time federal candidate, former journalist, current nonprofit executive director.
Two things I feel good about this week - indulgence in amazing Nova Scotia peaches and choosing to not let AI train off my posts on LinkedIn. Little wins, folks.

I wonder how big the ferry I’m on appeared to passengers on this cruise ship. #georgesisland #Halifax #behemoth

A snap just post show @sbtshalifax.bsky.social this evening at Point Pleasant. The players and the setting make As You Like It dreamy fun. #Halifax

If you’ve ever eaten a samosa, you must try samosa chaat. This is the version at Coffee Street in Dartmouth - delicious!

Day 2 of my dream commute - bike/ ferry to downtown Dartmouth (eventually I might attempt the bridge) and I met an older cyclist on her way to Toronto. She got to Halifax with a combo of train and bike. Multi-modal for a taste of adventure.

Nearing end of my bike/ferry commute to a new gig in based downtown Dartmouth. It won’t always be summer but I am looking forward to starting my mornings like this for many months to come.

Given this⤵️
how do we still consider the US a safe third country??!

Where do people swim off the Chain of Lakes/ BLT trail? Ended up finding an access to Governor Lake but it wasn’t ideal.

Somehow, this app is 90% #Halifax cycling for me so I figure it’s a good place to ask.

Good news, #Halifax. I still want to convince/ coach my teens to bike to Citadel safely. But I appreciate the bus pass.

I support a soccer stadium that is easy to get to by transit, on foot, by bike/AT and brings 1000s of people joy. A good presentation - from CPED in Sept 2023 - www.youtube.com/live/YgeXi9O..., at ~ 1:20. I wish #Halifax well as we deliberate on how to accommodate neighbours & multiple goals.

Grate a juicy, fat local carrot. Combine with seeds, pickled onions or chives, fine chopped celery. Mix with tahini thinned by lemon juice or vinegar. Top with greens, thin-sliced apple or tomato, and cheese if you like. I just had one. See you around #Halifax (6/6)

I am also grateful for the time I’ve spent with Jagmeet Singh. Politics is too often portrayed as a quest for self-interest. Jagmeet only sought to lift people up and demonstrate that we are all connected. (3/6)

Congratulations and best wishes to Shannon Miedema, the next Member of Parliament for Halifax. Our paths will continue to cross and I look forward to that.

While I am disappointed I am also immensely grateful. #nspoli (1/6)

Hey #Halifax #nspoli - I got 40% of the vote when I lost to the incumbent Liberal MP in 2021, compared to the CPC’s 12%. There’s no strategic reason to vote for your 2nd choice if you value the role of the #NDP in our democracy

It was the best time. They both thought they “won” by making the most challenging scavenger hunt for the other.

Campaigning is a bit of a grind and yesterday I needed a jolt of joy and grounding. So I planted ground cherries - maybe my favourite taste sensation/ fruit/ vegetable?! There is nothing like popping a ripe one. #Halifax

Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility. I was present as MLA Lisa Lachance raised the flag, at Province House and made a stop at Venus Envy to pick up some “You are welcome here" stickers for my campaign office. @lisalachancemla.bsky.social

Atlantic News is one of my favourite storefronts. And now it has a podcast. I binge-listened to a bunch of good conversations with owner Chris Green before he interviewed me as the NDP candidate for Halifax. Give it a listen: podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/a.... #nspoli #Halisky

Thank you. Volunteers and donors always welcome even if you don’t vote in Halifax!

Treating myself to some neighbourhood cafe comfort after a trip to the dentist (Handala). If I was to set up cafe hours in different spots during the general election, where should I go? And when? #Halifax #Halisky #nspoli

Green, orange and a bike helmet for St. Patrick’s Day. Have a good one, #Halifax!

Did you know that maple syrup does not freeze? I learned that from Cumberland County farmer Neil Ripley. He sold me my first 4 litre container last year from the Halifax Seaport Market, which we stored in our deep freeze. This morning it was time to restock!

What to do when it’s March Break but mom is in an election campaign and 16yo is at least as busy? You make the most of one evening together and head to The Boardroom Cafe on Barrington for a totally fun time. We were hooked by #Hooky, recommended to us by staff. Think Wordle crossed with Clue.
