If your job asks you to violently break into a *Quaker meetinghouse* with weapons to arrest people holding a nonviolent meeting...
You gotta quit your job, buddy.
Quaker meetinghouses are meant to be safe spaces. We cannot imagine the terror these women felt as police kicked in the front door without announcing their presence and arrested six women holding a nonviolent meeting.

Sending Light to our Friends in London and all affected by this unwarranted act.
Quakers condemn police raid on Westminster Meeting House
Police broke into a Quaker Meeting House last night (27 March) and arrested six young people holding a meeting over concerns for the climate and Gaza.

"The moral component of history [...] is simply a single question, asked over and over again: When it mattered, who sided with justice and who sided with power? What makes moments such as this one so dangerous, so clarifying, is that one way or another everyone is forced to answer."

Seems like as good a time as any to bring back one of Shakespeare's true gems

If we are not only incapable of seeking converts, but unwilling to accept them, where does that leave us?

The Fred Hamptons and Bobby Seales of the world met people where they were and persuaded them. They provided service to communities and shaped peoples politics from there. The way is clear.

Freddie Mercury didn't go into the studio and nail the vocals for "The Show Must Go On" in one take while dying of AIDS for you to despair and give up now. Take the time you need, but then get up and get back out there.

The show must go on.

Say what you want about Kendrick but the fact that people are figuring out what “40 acres and a mule” in 2025 is why any education to black history is important, no matter no big nor small.

Celebrating the third day of Black History Month by rereading some of our favorite essays and speeches by Bayard Rustin, whose Quaker background informed his commitment to nonviolent resistance and his support of and advocacy for worker's rights, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights.

"It is a terrible thing, simply, to be trapped in one's history, and attempt, in the same motion (and in this, our life!) to accept, deny, reject, and redeem it - and, also, on whatever level, to profit from it."

I'm always a little reluctant to read a Baldwin for the first time because there are not many that I haven't read at this point, and I'm super not looking forward for the day when there's none left for me to read for first time. BUT... desperate times and stuff, so here we are.

The world is on fire, but I do have this little nonsense book (my second least favorite Austen) up next for when I am not being consumed by the horrors and instead yearn for some secondhand embarrassment 🙃
