Look, I'm not saying we're the kind of people who dip crisps into baked camembert.

But I'm also not not saying that.

My job appears to mostly consist of giving sixteen year olds reasons why they shouldn't punch each other, and I'm unsure of how that happened.

I had a shockingly early misadventure with Richard Layman's 'Out are the Lights' which definitely left a mark. Still baffles me how it wound up in the school library or why they let me take it home.
Screw your favorite book, which was the first that upset you?

Lots of books from childhood onwards saddened me but it wasn’t until I read William Trevor’s Reading Turgenev, the great novella in this two-story collection, that I found real tears splashing on to the pages. Extraordinary.

Against all wisdom, I've started submitting again with a new novel. Salt and Stone sits on the weirder end of the speculative spectrum: a fantasy world with the appearance of science fiction. It's a story about ghost ships, office culture, and the intersections between social and climate justice.

It's truly a marvel of human avarice and stupidity that we decided to automate the arts before automating putting the bastard Christmas tree lights on.

There are only two correct answers to "what is the best Christmas film?".

Muppets Christmas Carol and Jingle all the Way. One day I hope to see a day where both combine and we're treated to Arnie elbow dropping the Ghost of Christmas Present, played by the very real ghost of Phil Hartman.
