cute shit and horror. omni nb.
18. For Sale by Exorcist (2024) - Melissa LaMartina

not into everything her but had fun. love the lead. good movie to throw on and have fun with. fits the comfort niche of goofy horror with at least some likeable characters and without anything too problematic, which is an elusive sweet spot

17. Frewaka (2024) - Aislinn Clarke

One of my favorite watches of the year so far. Visuals and sound were hypnotic, made me eager to learn more about the folklore it taps into, earns its themes.

16. This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse (1967) - Jose Mojica Marins

15. The Church (1989) - Michele Soavi

Like the rest of the directors work I've seen this one was quite weird, often though not always in a good way.

13. An American Werewolf in London (1981)

Haven't seen this in long enough that I'm counting it. Great movie, better than remembered, love some of the interactions. Hard to hype up sometimes given some of the things the director was responsible for afterwards, and his son's history.

12. Curse of Re-Animator (2022)

Threequel to above above, i feel mostly the same about all three entries. I will weirdly kind of miss Josh Cole's "i'm doing the best i can with *gestures at circumstances*" take on Herbert West, Re-animator.

11. Beyond the Resonator (2022)

Sequel to above, a bit more fun but overall similar vibes. This movie and the third really want you to know that they have Herbert West, which is why the character refers to himself in the third person constantly and other characters use his full name

10. The Resonator: Miskatonic U

Was hoping to find this series more charming than was the case. There was a certain comfort to such short, familiar, dramatic micro-budget horror entries but overall would not recommend. Wierd amount of guns for lovecraftian horror, which i feel was a misstep.

9. Beyond Re-Animator (2003)

Least favorite of the series. I enjoy watching Jeffrey Combs chew scenes, and have since i fell in love with Frighteners as a child, but as the series goes on and a the films get worse it's harder to distract myself from the problematic shit they shove into each movie

8. Sputnik (2020)

Some interesting sci-fi horror elements in here, a few fun scenes, compelling characters. I didn't see many takes agreeing with my interpretation of the ending, an interpretation which influenced my overall opinion of the film, so your mileage may vary.

Little housekeeping here since i've been busy with health appointments, went on a trip and also just not really remembering about blusky much. so we're gonna bang out the films i watched but forgot to or didn't have time to add here.

7. Come to Daddy

not for me, kinda mean kinda gross

6. Destroy All Neighbors

My kind of freak, there's a lot about this movie that kind of annoys me but it sticks the landing in very specific and satisfying ways. Shout out to the Scaredy Cats review for saying it better than i can.

Wendigo (2001)

The second Larry Fessenden movie I've watched. They're an acquired taste but they both had a lot to say about issues that are very personal to me (Habit w/ addiction and in this, the complex nature of fatherhood from a child's perspective). Two unique and special experiences

4. The Beach House

Actually dug this quite a bit, despite the frankly insane amount of secondhand discomfort i got in the first 30 minutes. Also wow that foot horror.

3. The Ward (2007)

Working through some Carpenter. I appreciate some of what's going on here, but not for me. There's a lot of mental health horror, especially stuff made before the last few years, that I'm not very fond of. Even some that's made by well meaning folks can be pretty problematic.

2. Immaculate (2024)

I did not like this movie. I think there are much better movies out there about women's autonomy and it grosses me out that Sweeney originally auditioned for the role in 2014 when she was 17, given how the movie is shot and edited.

just found out about #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days so might as well give it a shot

1. 13 Sherwood Ave

Queer made found footage, which we love. One of my faves of the Mansfield/Sherwood series. Appreciated the way it interacts with queer trauma.

Pretty cool to see Tadanobu Asano win a Golden Globe. If anyone wants to check out some of his earlier stuff, Bright Future, Last Life in the Universe and Cafe Lumiere are all great and came out in the same year. Dude has been killing it for decades.
