When we built our Interactive Read Aloud model, we started with the evidence around what works well.

We built a cross curricular model that supports colleagues outside their specialism to deliver high impact, knowledge rich reading sessions.

We took every topic across KS3 Geography, History, and Science and turned them into 10-15 minute academic reads. That's 140+ texts covering every aspect of those KS3 curricula.

It is time to ditch the video and put reading back to the top of the class.

Before we look at incentives and initiatives to get students "Reading for Pleasure" we need to take an honest look at reading in our lessons. How far have we driven reading from our classrooms?

If it can be reading, it should be reading.

And yet schools tremble at the idea of reading within a lesson. Every time YouTube replaces text we kill off reading a little more.

We ask schools to reflect honestly on where reading fits into their lessons. Then help them embed reading across the curriculum. If it can be reading, it should be.
October 2, 2025 at 4:50 PM
Considering the amount of time & effort that is devoted to home reading projects & sustained silent reading in schools, you'd think they'd have more impact. The just don't unfortunately.

If you are still using them, drop us a message & we'll help you better harness that time.

Are still using "Drop Everything And Read"?
Has your novel based tutor time reading programme lost its momentum?

If the answer is yes, please drop us a message. We can help you better harness that time & create a culture of reading across your curriculum

What we crafted was an evidence based Interactive Read Aloud model that puts knowledge and fluency building at the heart of a cross curricular model for reading across the secondary curriculum.
September 15, 2025 at 5:26 PM
We looked at evidence based pedagogical theory and applied it to help shape our model. We took Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction and built a model for reading across the curriculum.
