Reading my 1st Joan Didion on her birthday 🎂✨

When I realized today was Joan’s birthday, it felt like the perfect excuse to finally pick up Play It As It Lays—a book that’s been staring at me from my shelf for months.

Which authors are still waiting for their moment on your TBR?

Happy December! ❄️📚

Do you & your partner (or best reading buddy) have similar taste in books?

My wife & I honestly couldn’t be further apart! She’s deep in her thriller era, while I’m over here happily reading my “low-stakes, someone just makes soup and has feelings” fiction 😆.

Did November treat your TBR well? 📚

I read almost everything I planned to, except The Dispossessed. I would’ve finished it if I hadn’t taken a 5 day reading vacation at Disneyland 😆

What was your favorite read of November, & which book are you most excited to dive into in December? 🎄✨

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear — not absence of fear.” — Mark Twain

November 30 marks the birthday of Mark Twain, whose stories, humor, and insight continue to inspire readers and writers alike. ✍️📚

Are you doing "Non-fiction November"?

I'm not usually a non-fiction reader, but these blew me away:

🐦 Bird by Bird – Anne Lamott

🏃 What I Talk About When I Talk About Running – Murakami

📖 Knife – Salman Rushdie

✉️ Letters to a Young Poet – Rilke

🏚️ Ghost Town Living – Brent Underwood

Mid-month reading progress check for Native American Heritage Month 📚

Just finished The Devil Is a Southpaw, and it was challenging, impressive, and unbelievably rewarding — a fascinating portrait of obsession.

Only eleven vertical spines in my collection 📚
I love their uniqueness, how they choose to go up and down instead of sideways ✨
I'm curious, how many vertical spines do you have on your shelves?

Can you guess which book I selected for my November BoTM? 📦📖

Here’s a hint: “A luminous novel of love, loss, science, and art, that asks if the past can ever be truly revisited, and at what cost?”

I’m looking forward to reading this one!

Remembering Kurt Vonnegut on his bday (Nov 11)

He said: “Laughter and tears are both responses to frustration and exhaustion… I myself prefer to laugh, since there is less cleaning up to do afterward.”

Which is your favorite Vonnegut novel, or which do you plan to read next?

📚 Just finished Shadow Ticket, and wow, what a trip!
➡️ Up next: Tom’s Crossing

Shadow ticket is classic Pynchon chaos, and he’s clearly just having fun. It's a jazzy, Depression-era detective fever dream that’s as playfully strange as it is eerily relevant.

Remembering Albert Camus on his bday (Nov 7th)

Camus didn’t write to escape the world; he wrote to face it. To insist that even in the absurd, there is room for rebellious hope.

“In the depths of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”

I hit up the Friends of the San Tan Library book sale this weekend and had to do some serious digging, but it paid off-2 books for $2! I hadn't heard of either before (Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx and Old School by Tobias Wolff), but that's half the fun.
