Just in the past week or so, a parade of strangers have stopped by my house to pick up cuttings from my pothos and spider plants. Another complete stranger helped me carry a cat tree from his house to mine so my foster cat will have something of his own to tear apart.
Cities are good, actually.

It's #mothweek, so I went to the Wiss to learn about moths and then look for some willing specimens drawn to light and sugar bait. Sugar bait is a heady 5-day-old brew of beer, brown sugar and bananas; this little moth was visibly slurping it out of the fence rail where it had been painted.

A lil more about this good cat: Sherb loves parties and overnight guests, so I think he'd love a household with more than just one adoring human. He likes kids! He just doesn't like dogs or other cats. His ideal day would be playing with wand toys for hours, but since I WFH, he entertains himself.

Earlier this week I spent a couple hours sweating under the trees at Awbury Arboretum, which is the start of the Wingohocking Creek which merges with Frankford in the Tookany-Tacony/Frankford watershed.

Spent the afternoon at Riverfest at Glen Foerd, a historic house perched where the Poquessing flows into the Delaware.

Volunteering meant I got to the end of the line early, and then I got to see everyone walking up.

Astonishingly, on my walk home today I passed THREE serviceberry trees bursting with fruit that had not been decimated by birds or infested with cedar apple rust. I picked about a cup of purple berries and am making a little jam. I'll have to check back in a few days and see if more are ready.

I quit Instagram a couple months ago, and I usually so not miss it EXCEPT! I have this very adorable foster orangeboi staying with me, and I need the world to see him.

I've been having a rough time mental health wise, for all the completely understandable external reasons, but I'm so sick of myself I had to go touch grass. Spent the morning in my favorite park and I do feel a lot better.

The recurring theme, again and again, is that science is a vital to the project of justice, and justice must be just as vital to the progress of science. We can't stand up for science without also standing up for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Incredible speakers today. Researchers studying the shockingly high rate of maternal mortality in the US (especially for Black patients), endometriosis, infectious diseases, science education, and hormones--including the dreaded hormone therapy research in mice, which has broad health applications.
