I am basically obsessed with tents and structures. Currently working on my 21st tent/structure. When not thinking about tent building, I am most likely making coffee in my encampment reading books on tents and recently making Kyrgyzstanian reed screens. #nerd

Starry Tarp of Tir Righ update.

I was gifted a massive bolt of orange fabric. It is boarding on being violently complementary to the blue tarp. Yep. The tarp is getting a lining.

The tension patches have been sown on, dowels cut and grooved, and 1/5th of the rope is done.

Working on my blue sunshade, complete with a semy of 8 pointed voided stars (Populace badge of Tir Righ). Based on a small background detail of a 12th century illumination.

The tarp is blue with a semy of possibly gold stars, has black rope stress patches at the ends, and is held up with red ropes and red poles. A blue tarp that is 7.5ft deep and 13 ft wide. A scroll featuring a tent that incorporates details from my timurid disked bell. The scroll was for the Kingdom of An Tir's award for spiffy encampments. Its called the Righteous Rath. My kalkan shield project complete with the rattan reeds, a sample of winding techniques, and the 4/8 cotton warp spools in royal blue, black, white, and mustard yellow.

I am starting a new project that is adjacent to my reed screens. Kalkans.

A small domed shield made of spiral bound reeds/rods. There are a lot of them in museums, but not a lot about how to make them. Researching museum photos and starting trials on binds techniques.

So even before the next tent project I am going to jump ahead and do a blue awning for my disked bells encampment. Found what I think is a blue rectangle with decorations, red ropes, and poles. I think mine will be Azure, semi of 8 pointed voided stats argent.

Finished my felted hat. Will eventually replace the band, but it will do for now. The next hat I make will require a proper hat block, as the pot i used ended up a tad too big.

This horse mounted tent in red and blue is adorable, and might be my next tent. Instead of a center pole design, the next tent will have a yurt ring, and vertical poles, much like in this illustration of a mongolian chegezi ger. I have enough red and yellow canvas from previous tents / fabric stash to make a small tent.

My 8ft red timurid empire tent pole while pretty wasn't up to snuff, so I decided to make a new pole.

3" sewer pipe and pillar style candle holders are what I'm using. Same technique I used for my 6ft tall white tomurid empire tent.

Go girthy or go home.

Took the new sunshade to the Barony of Lionsgate Champions Tourney. It worked out pretty nicely. I only have a few tie straps left to sew onto it.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, as it doesn't fit with my more Timurid persona. We'll under a hundred all in.

So I just soaked the sunshade tarp in silicon dissolved in naptha.
Should dry clear and make the tarp full on waterproof.

If you try making your own silipoly tarp. Buy dishwasher gloves. Do not rely on latex gloves. My latex gloves broke, and I now have webbed fingers.

Thank goodness this particular folly is essentially done. The reed screens last weft reed was placed at Salon Artificum, thus ending 4 solid months of putzing around. An edge binding and some card woven straps are left. 14ft long... oof. Taking a week off.
