Parable of the ham: Woman goes to make dinner by baking a ham, she cuts the ends off the ham and puts it in the pan; her spouse sees this and asks "why do you cut the ends off the ham?" She says "that's just how you cook it, its how my mom did it and I learned from her"; now curious, she asks her mom "hey, why did you cut the ends off the ham before baking?" And her mom says "well that's how my mom did it, I don't know why"; so the woman goes to her grandmother, and asks why she cut the ends off the ham, her grandmother says "I don't know actually, that's just how my mother did it"; finally the woman goes to see her great-grandmother in the nursing home, and asks "why did you always cut the ends off a ham before baking it?" The great-grandmother says "oh, our pans weren't big enough, you couldn't fit a whole ham in there, you kids are lucky, you have bigger pans and don't need to do that anymore"

Wish he'd been right about people waking up over a century ago
We have become great because of the lavish use of our resources. But the time has come to inquire seriously what will happen when our forests are gone, when the coal, the iron, the oil, and the gas are exhausted, when the soils have still further impoverished and washed into the streams, polluting the rivers, denuding the fields and obstructing navigation. It is also vandalism wantonly to destroy or to permit the destruction of what is beautiful in nature, whether it be a cliff, a forest, or a species of mammal or bird. Here in the United States we turn our rivers and streams into sewers and dumping-grounds, we pollute the air, we destroy forests, and exterminate fishes, birds and mammals -- not to speak of vulgarizing charming landscapes with hideous advertisements. But at last it looks as if our people were awakening.

Schizophrenia is so weird, because reality checking is basically beneficial self-gaslighting yourself You have to doubt and even contradict your own senses and perception, but instead of accepting a lie you have to convince yourself of the truth, despite what your mind is telling you ♡

I began to sense faintly that secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy...censorship. When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, “This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,” the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.

Do not want phone controls
Do not want an app for it
Do not want a subscription

Just want appliances that work, on their own, without software updates, by pressing a physical button 😌
