“A collapse into government control under a special administration regime (SAR) – a form of temporary nationalisation – ‘could occur in the very near term’”

So my decision to switch to Linux is now moved up my to-do list. My laptop that has been fine until recently encountered a fatal Windows error and will no longer boot as of this morning (it's W11 btw). Glad I have a fairly recent external back up of stuff. Not a stress I needed today.

The UK Covid-19 Inquiry confirms what our communities have lived for years: the government’s pandemic response wasn’t just a failure - it was a historic abandonment. “Too little, too late” doesn’t capture the scale of the harm. /1

If exclusively Christian RE is indoctrination, then so is collective worship ‘wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character' – a legal requirement in ALL state schools.

Been following this series and it's been cool to see it come together and to see the sheer quality of the skill of all the crafts people involved. 🪡🗡️

I always enjoy a @bernadettebanner.bsky.social video and this was no exception. 😊

Currently reading "What You Are Looking for is in the Library" by Michiko Aoyama. I picked it up on a whim when I got to go to a bookshop in the summer. So I've been reading a short story from it on and off since. This morning has been absorbed in its pages while I sip coffee, highly recommend. 😊

Spent a cozy morning with homebrewed coffee and a new video from Rachel Maksy. I love her creativity and seeing the process in which she pulls things together, even for "just a photoshoot". youtu.be/LzX9bMM0gRc?...

Thanks to HMV, a random search for Katherine Hepburn I now own the Criterion Collection release of "The Philadelphia Story", which is full of extras that have been fascinating. One is rare interview with Hepburn from 1985. She will always be inspiring to me.

The Philadelphia Story
With this furiously witty comedy of manners, Katharine Hepburn revitalized her career and cemented her status as the era’s most iconic leading lady—thanks in great part to her own shrewd orchestration...

My nice chill soundtrack for the evening is the curated playlist "80s Synth-Pop" by Qobuz UK on Qobuz open.qobuz.com/playlist/222...

And I can't get over how many songs I know, but also ones I didn't if it weren't for samples used by artists I follow in the Breaks/DnB scene from the mid 2000s.

Just found that @neocities.org exists by complete accident, and at first I thought I clicked onto the way back machine as the site had a blinking gif starry background, stamps and banners. Turned out I wasn't on a passion project or virtual time machine but a cool open source place of personality!

New music! "Better Broken" by Sarah McLachlan is out on Qobuz, and it was really nice to listen to on the sunny weekend, and I'm just happy she's still making music when she wants to. 😊 open.qobuz.com/album/wl2a3q...

Seeing public critics of a government getting fired so mergers will be approved, while a dude who talks about “involuntarily euthanising” the homeless just has to issue an apology, is the most dystopian crap I’ve ever seen.

Terry Pratchett wrote of Golems with no sex who chose to be identified as men … and Gladys … the Golem that identified as a woman … and was respected for *her* identity …

and wrote of the importance of words we *choose* for ourselves …

And making up our *own* mind on what that means.

Was evaluating MobiSystems Office suite to replace M$, as I've used their File App for years on Android. Plus feature similarity to Office365. Today I used the Docs app for the first time in months, it's now got AI I can't turn off. It got uninstalled. Users should have control over feature on/off.

Tiffany enjoying the shaded & cooler air in the patio garden (it stops getting sun in the afternoon so cools down enough to use).

We were also cleaning up & put her favourite felt playmat out to air on the airer. She loves sitting on it & it's become her favourite evening spot to watch the birds.
