So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

Awful news from Wales, the St Fagan's Museum has been broken into and prehistoric goldwork has been taken. Its painful to think what objects might now be at risk. Thoughts with the museum team who must be devastated, all speed to the police and a curse on the crooks.

So since I'm annoyed let me say a few things today. Some folks have been writing about Christian Nationalism and apocalyptic right wing movements for YEARS here in the US. YEARS. Do we get to have a platform in major mags and newspapers... rarely.

This is appalling. It seems the parish council made a mistake, and some adults complained. And it's children and young people who lose out, with plans for a new play space pushed into next year at least.

It's the sound of children playing, FFS.

Technically it's over the Tees in Thornaby, but it's all the same unitary authority now.

'Staff at some institutions will not get even get the small rise due to them because of a clause in the negotiations that allows for a delay for up to 11 months if a university is facing financial difficulties.' So far, Dundee, Kent, Brunel, Coventry, Swansea.
Five UK universities tell staff they can’t afford pay rises

As more of my valued colleagues face the threat of redundancy, here’s a quick reminder that it takes years and years of public investment to train an academic. Cutting someone with this wealth of experience loose isn’t “saving” anything. It is a massive waste of our collective resources.
UK Universities in Crisis? Time to Transform Higher Ed Finance

I agree. But as a former university President, I regret that universities are caught in the middle. Lose lose.

“Newsom declared that the state of California will pull funding from any university that caves to Trump’s extortion gambit. This is the right path for Democrats. Where they control levers of power, they should use them to create counterincentives.”

This is due to a law signed by Ronald Reagan and has nothing to do with this shutdown fight.

But consider this...

Emergency Medicaid spending in 2023 cost $3.8 billion — just 0.4% of total Medicaid spending.

Now what about the $20 billion taxpayers are giving to Argentina?

It is important to see this sort of straight talking, precisely because of the executive order last week that conflated criticism of the government with terrorism.

Built around a former blast furnace, it is an exemplar of reclaiming an industrial space for modern use.

Hegseth said yesterday he wants to ban any symbols of “superficial individual expression” by people serving in the military. Of course, he was probably talking about dangerous things like rainbows.
