Of course, as most activists have said when deported, they are not the story - the story is what Israel is doing to Palestinian people every day. You can bet most of these activists were treated much better than most Palestinians who are detained.

V worrying that several activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla are still imprisoned in Israel, including 3 Norwegians, 2 Moroccans and a Spaniard. Those deported have reported having to drink water from the toilet and being given food infested with insects. Meanwhile, other boats now intercepted.

Tre norske aktivister fra første flotilla har sittet i mange dager. Samuel Rostøl, Eline Norli og Christoforos Schuff O’Moore. Vann må drikkes fra toalettet, det er skittent og infestert, man nektes selvsagt advokat/rettshjelp, og flere forteller om å ha sett former for tortur mot noen aktivister.

Am so relieved to hear this. Although, as all the released flotilla members have been quick to point out, they are not the story - the real story is the much worse harm being inflicted on the people of Gaza every day.

Evening, Womble. I have had the BEST time finishing up The Raven Scholar this weekend. I think you've probably read it, but for anyone who hasn't, it's a wry, often hilarious narrative built on epic tragedy that keeps reverberating through the events of the story. Brilliant!

I read that spokesperson quote and thought, thank god I'm no longer in the Labour Party. Do not miss having to deal with that sleazy kind of double-speak one bit. (I met some great people in Labour, but so many of those in positions of power were... grim.)

When Labour says @zackpolanski.bsky.social is "using his platform to sow division and grievance", what they mean is that he's using it to push for justice and equality.

They *hate* when people do that.

It's a bloody good speech. No wonder they're freaking out.

Yes, I know, Musk and other useful idiots were inspired by SF, whatever - have you noticed what else has been going on in the past 40 years that might have inspired them? Neoliberalism, for one! A lot of the SF trajectories we're now on were written as warnings, ffs.

It feels like the "sci-fi has gone authoritarian/reactionary" conversation has hit the mainstream and I find it so confusing because all the sci-fi I see and read is the *opposite* of that - it's hopeful, boundary-breaking, thrutopian, solarpunk, soilpunk. Like, are these guys still reading Asimov?
