This seems worse than other journalistic cost-cutting, because as Marty Baron says, it's a self-inflicted wound from the decision to spike the Harris endorsement that looked like an effort to curry favor with Trump.

The strategy also makes no sense: cutting content will lead more people to cancel subscriptions. The Atlantic has much more content than it did a few years ago, and subscribers have come in droves. If you build it, they will come.
