If they fail to cancel or manipulate the elections, they will, in my view, almost certainly stage a series of attacks in order to justify a declaration of martial law. This is precisely how Putin rose to power, by having the Russian FSB carry out apartment bombings in Moscow in 1999.

Do not pin your hopes on the midterm elections either. Trump and his accomplices have by now consolidated their grip on power and will do everything—literally everything—to retain it.

Bear in mind that, from this point on, your Constitution is little more than a worthless piece of paper. Autocrats do not abide by the rule of law; they think only in terms of power exercised through fear.

Once a regime has reached this stage, conventional protest no longer suffices. What is required is decisive political and institutional action to dismantle the system of repression itself.

History offers grim lessons. In Europe, strikes under Nazi and Soviet occupation were met with brutal retaliation. Those efforts were drowned in blood.

I’m sorry, but it is too late for strikes. This instrument should have been used much earlier. By now, Trump’s regime has consolidated its power through ICE, turning it into a machinery of fear and repression. That apparatus will be used to force obedience and crush dissent.
