Before we headed off Jamal suggested we grab coffee once we were back in DC. Unfortunately we never got the chance. Within a matter of months, Saudi agents had murdered him in Istanbul and dismembered him with a bone saw to hide the evidence.

I went to meet up with @iyadelbaghdadi.bsky.social and the two of them were hanging out having coffee in a hotel lobby, just below a neon version of Munch's "The Scream." Iyad introduced him as "Jamal." Embarrassingly, it took me a good 10 minutes to realize I was talking to *that* Jamal.
