How many physician appointments, how many imaging tests, how much lab work? What pain score? Number of tea spoons of various shades of phlegm? Fever high enough to require ice bed? The miracle drug isn't coming. Another bone cracks. Someone asks if you feel safe at home.

Then the first illness is comorbid and an invasive surgery required. A year later. There is post-surgery complication. A third illness. Specialists (every special kind) with no answers. And the original terminal diagnosis has progressed.

I blocked my calendar so that Thursdays are populated by very important meetings. Then I bought silver needle tea and started a new book, as in book. It's called sacred reading day.
