I wonder if they would have done the same if the plant was going to make gasoline powered cars. We know that the Administration has declared war on EVs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it got ICE to do its dirty work

When I saw your name on the post, I initially misread it as “The Onion.” I think I could be forgiven for making that mistake, given the story you posted. Truth is stranger than satire

People put up with his pro billionaire crap because they thought he was also pro-LGBT. I didn’t like the compromise on economic issues then, but not I am just bewildered that he is still such a darling of liberals

As an aside, remember when National Geographic took us to faraway places, with its beautiful photograph and descriptive prose? now it’s just another sensationalist sci fi site

One’s an op-ed by one of their most conservative contributor, the other is an actual editorial

I tried to do the map, but I ended up overthinking. Hard to do it by state: take Arizona, for instance, I would consider living in Flagstaff, if I could find work, but not in Tucson. and hard pass on the Phoenix area

Or what if you take into account that a disproportionate number of accidents are caused by drunks (which Waymo won’t eliminate bc Lyft is cheaper) or drag racing kids (which you won’t eliminate wo a ban on human drivers. Dream on)?

TBF, there are some studies that indicate that this is true. But you still are not comparing like with like. How does Waymo compare if you only compare it to cars with collision avoidance tech, etc? Or to cars with functioning brakes and tires with good tread FTM?

They should make traffic fines proportiona to income, like I believe Finland does

Yet another reason why they should be treated like employees instead of contractors

My understanding is that Uber won’t let you drive for them unless you have a late model car. Which, for most people, means there‘s a lien on it. So, do they own it? Well, yes and no.

Wait a second, I thought that Altman thought that the Singularity was going to happen during the next couple of years. So which is it?

Seems to be largely based on what David Chalmers has said. What do people on this thread think of him? I’m only vaguely familiar with his work, but I believe that he is a philosopher, not a scientist. Nothing wrong with philosophy, but it’s not neuroscience

I also think there’s something sort of poetic about the two types of crazy that dominate the current GOP turning on each other

The “Jewish Space Laser” congressmember? Yeah, I have a great deal of trouble mustering any concern or empathy for her. I wouldn’t want her to get killed, but that’s about as far as it goes

But seriously, it shows how closely connected so many of us are, and three hops is a very wide net

Neil Patrick Harris in two hops in two different ways (went to HS with one of the showrunners of HIMYM, and worked with a paralegal who supposedly dated him briefly when they were teenagers, before he came out). This is fun!
