One wonders how Baron-Cohen's "extreme male brain" theory of autism may intersect with Midgley's insight.
I enjoyed your piece. It would be interesting to consider how autism contextualizes the work of philosophers we now recognize as autistic. I recently read a 2011 NYer profile of Derek Parfit, whose autism seems obvious. Wittgenstein & Peirce, too.

How would he do that? He doesn't have the power to fire Vance. He can ostracize him, he can humiliate him, but he cannot involuntarily remove him from the vice-presidency
