I keep seeing takes about how teachers need to “incorporate AI into their curriculum.” I hate it, and I want to know what they even MEAN by this. I have SO many questions. Do they want like, a class where you learn how to prompt an AI bot? That doesn’t take more than five minutes to figure out!! 1/?

One of my guilty frustrations as a GM is when a player interrupts a BBEG monologue to say “Whatever I cast fireball.” I won’t rob my player of their free will, but in this thread I’ll discuss a few strategic / roleplay arguments AGAINST doing this.

Playing Disco Elysium is a slippery slope. Go for too long and you can’t help but frame every irl decision in terms of skill voices talking to you. As a teacher, my loudest voices are probably Encyclopedia, Drama, Empathy, Authority, and Reaction Speed.

Another point of appreciation for Disco Elysium and its takedown of fascism: it’s not afraid of using the word “fascist”. It doesn’t try to make statements about fascism through allegory, fantasy elf discrimination, or subtle implication. Nope. The fourth wall *breaks* to label the fascists.
No game “gets” fascism like Disco Elysium. Let’s unpack that. It speaks the language with NATIVE fluency. It’s not like other media which paints it with the broad strokes of “Racist Authoritarian” and calls it a day. No, it dissects it like a frog and lays out how each nasty organ connects together.

All Copotypes in Disco Elysium are lovingly written to make Harry pathetic in their own way, but I’ll always have a soft place in my heart for Sorry Cop. The conclusion text to the Rigorous Self-Critique Thought really does not pull any punches about how much harm Harry has done.

I’ve still never gotten a picture of the Insulindian Phasmid. I don’t like to save scum in order to preserve the most “authentic” story for that version of Harry. Considering doing a maximum electrochemistry run just to pass the Phasmid check.

I teach Spanish. A certain type of student’s favorite excuse is to throw up their hands and say “I don’t speak Spanish!” in response to being asked *anything*. And it is said with such confusion, anger and revulsion as if to frame me as some freak who expected them to be 100% fluent out of nowhere.

Random biographical fact about me is that I used to run a TikTok of ~145K followers analyzing emo / indie song lyrics, and I nuked it when I became a teacher. Maybe it’s for the best, I started to stress myself out over whether my takes were too surface-level, but surface-level is what got views!
