I don’t really like Grand Prix (1966) much as a movie, but F1 is a poor imitation.

The racing scenes are genuinely worse than a regular racing broadcast. No tension and a ton of very obvious drone footage.

I would recommend watching the rebuilds if you enjoyed the series. It’s a different experience that is also worthwhile. Or you can watch Shin Godzilla, which is probably the best movie Anno has made.

But that’s also kind of my point. Avatar makes so much money that “who you know” should be everyone. Star Wars is completely unavoidable, but Avatar apparently trades on huge audiences that do not generate noise reaching anywhere beyond people who also already watch Avatar.

When Star Wars 7 came out, everyone I went to high school with was talking about it. Even the people who never talked about movies, fantasy, or sci-fi. When the first and second Avatars no one even acknowledged them.

I’ve never been surprised that people like Avatar. I’ve always been surprised that so many people apparently like Avatar enough to see it multiple times but never talk about it. This is the first time I’ve ever heard “Avatar good actually” be louder than “who is seeing Avatar?”

Canon isn’t a real thing anyway, so I’m not sure why anyone cares.

Have the Bengals ever won in orange pants? They seem to play like the Browns every time they wear those.

I should have known when the Bengals were wearing orange pants that they would find a way to lose.

I don’t necessarily have a problem with legalized gambling, but I absolutely think we should be treating it like cigarettes and getting the advertising out of the public eye. If you want it, you know where to find it, but the rest of us (and more impressionable of us) don’t need to be subject to it.
