Also, we DO know what's causing these overdoses: It's prohibition, but no local media has the brains to make that connection.

The BPD is cracking down on drug users and dealers alike, fanning the flames of the drug war. People are dying as a result.

Here we fucking go again. The Banner is reporting that benzodiazepines are "often" found in Baltimore's drug supply, which is FALSE.

They cite "state testing" without providing the data. I've already reported on the RAD data — it shows benzos are very rare in local test samples.

And now this lineup is coming to Baltimore in March? Jeeeeez.

On Day 3 of skating everyday to get some exercise/re-learn tricks. Haven't fucked myself up badly enough to end up in the hospital yet.

Will provide updates from the ER when it inevitably happens.

Members of Housing Our Neighbors said that the survey results underscore the need for the General Assembly to regulate shelters — something they have been demanding for years as shelters seemingly go unchecked.

ICYMI: As long as these crackdowns continue, drug users will face a more lethal drug supply — and unhoused individuals will be forced to leave their community or go to a shelter that is ill-equipped to meet their needs.

Low-level drug arrests have doubled in some police districts in Baltimore this year. Since July, the city has cleared 23 encampments.

For this week's Redux Newsletter, I take a deeper look into Baltimore's crackdown on its most vulnerable residents. 🔽

We’re crowdfunding for @eji.org, a charitable org dedicated to “ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.”

The United States incarcerates its citizens more than any other country. Mass incarceration disproportionately impacts the poor and people of color and does not make us safer. EJI is working to end our misguided reliance on over-incarceration.

The U.S. has 5% of the world’s population but nearly 25% of its incarcerated population.

Our spending on jails and prisons reached $87 billion in 2015, an increase of 1000% from the $7.4 billion spent in 1975.

In 1972, there were only 200,000 people incarcerated in the United States. Today that number has grown to 2.2 million.

Obviously, this has major implications for unions that play an important part in the labor movement — people should be organizing now more than ever. But police unions/prison unions have no place in that space.
loganhullinger.com
I can't say I'm upset that a union representing people who help maintain this country's disgraceful carceral system got fucked over.

Maybe police unions next? Just as a treat?

BREAKING: The Federal Bureau of Prisons just terminated its union's collective bargaining agreement this afternoon, according to this letter posted online by the national union president:

Also, can we stop platforming these losers?

The BPD is touting another drug bust today. As always, the people they arrested — and the drugs they seized — will immediately be replaced.

Drug users will pivot to an even more unpredictable and lethal drug supply. The enforcement won't hurt sales; it'll just hurt people.

A severe overdose-deaths disparity impacting rural Minnesota's Indigenous communities was much reduced—but not eliminated—from 2022-24, new data show.

Factors that likely contributed to this trajectory could be under threat, reports Sydney Sauer:
Indigenous OD Mortality Plummets in Minnesota, But Disparity Remains
New data indicate that harm reduction efforts in rural parts of the state may be paying off, though progress is under threat.
