the fact that they make clear that the decoy villain is just a murderbot almost right at the start doesn't help either— it could've been interesting if they explored her being aware of being mass produced and could explain her role at the ending but nope

i mean, half of the original ff4 is medieval star wars but it's still an unprecedented effort to have an all-encompassing coherent story

and then ff4:tay has essentially no plot beyond "teenagers suck"/rehashing ff4 verbatim, and the villain's backstory/motivation only appears at the literal end

also, SCP-8008 is better (worse?) but looking at 9013 from a somewhat serious viewpoint i like how one of the underlying themes is that [spoiler techbro] leads mankind to a literal 100000 years of absolute stagnation and meaninglessness, and still sees himself as a saviour
