Software developer and video game player. Amateur game developer.
Software development is always more complicated than it looks at first glance. In my previous post, I mentioned how I was working on implementing the fighter class. I thought it would be easy, but as it turns out it touches most aspects of the combat system.
For now, I've got one part fully working.

I haven't posted for a while, mostly because I don't have anything to visually show right now in my development.
Right now, I'm continuing the skill tree work that I posted about last time. I'm improving the editor tools I've created to define the skill tree, and actually started building them.

This update took me longer than I expected, especially considering that it was already partially completed. That said, I finally have a working* skill tree.

*Several caveats apply

Unfortunately the recording tool didn't record the cursor, but I can describe what is displayed in the video.

The most recent feature I've been working on for my game is to add tile smoothing. This allows me to build terrain that is functionally identical, but looks more natural.
I also built a tool to automatically adjust heights(2nd pic), which I can then make manual adjustments to (3rd pic).

To summarize the game I've been developing:
It is a turn based tactics game inspired heavily by Final Fantasy Tactics. It is basically taking the core gameplay and expanding on it in ways I wanted to see more of in the original. I wanted to see more customization and exploration.

So I've been trying to think about how best to discuss my game development here.
Right now, there is a lot of details added to the game, but very little that is readily visible. Visually, it currently looks like a board game with some basic figures, and nothing else.

I just ended my 7ish year career as a software developer due to not liking the direction management was taking.
Instead, for the time being I'm planning to start focusing more on the game I've been developing as a hobby for a few years. I'm planning to start posting updates here soon.
