From the world record attendance at the Rugby World Cup Final to the return of women’s tennis at Queens after 52 years, London has successfully staged some of the world’s biggest sporting events this year - shining a global spotlight on the capital and inspiring young Londoners.

At the start of the year, I declared London the undisputed global capital for women’s sport in 2025.

I’m proud that our city has so emphatically delivered, with more than a million fans in London coming to watch the best in the world compete.

Backed with record MOPAC funding, the Met is stepping up specialist operations in phone theft hotspots like the West End.

This crackdown has already led to 100s of arrests, contributing to a 13% drop in personal robbery across London in the first quarter of this year.

My statement on the second anniversary of the 7 October attacks.
Two years on from the horrific terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, we remember all the innocent victims whose lives were cruelly stolen by Hamas.

Our thoughts are also with the families whose loved ones were callously murdered, as well as with the hostages who disgracefully remain in captivity and must be released immediately.

October 7 was the single deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust and a profoundly painful experience for London’s Jewish communities. We must never forget this atrocity, nor the deep distress and grief it has caused many Londoners.

As the vile terrorist attack on Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester last Thursday demonstrated, we still have far more to do to tackle the poison of antisemitism and drive it out of our society.

Our Jewish communities must be able to live, work and worship freely – without the fear of harassment, discrimination, intimidation or violence. The fact they are currently unable to shows we must work much harder to stamp out antisemitism wherever it rears its ugly head. We must never allow conflict overseas to divide us at home. As Mayor, I will continue my work to promote inter-faith dialogue and build bridges between our different religious communities. Whether it’s antisemitism or any other form of bigotry, London has no place for those who seek to sow the seeds of hate.

On this solemn anniversary, we must also acknowledge the suffering and trauma since 7 October 2023. Like so many others, my heart aches for the tens of thousands of innocent civilians in Gaza who have been killed and the families who have been torn apart.

Today, more than ever, I pray that the cycle of terror, killing and bloodshed that has engulfed the region can soon be brought to an end; that the surviving hostages can be set free; that vital humanitarian aid can flow into Gaza; and that Israelis and Palestinians can one day live side-by-side in two states and in peace.

I’m committed to making our transport network as accessible as possible, enabling more people to enjoy our great city.

This new station entrance in Battersea is an important milestone as we work towards our ambitious target of making 50% of the network step-free by 2030.

Without a constant stream of traffic, the nation’s high street came alive for one extraordinary day.

Footfall was up nearly 50% and passenger numbers at nearby Tube stations jumped by 25%. It shows the appetite for a traffic-free Oxford Street where businesses and Londoners can thrive.

These new figures prove that when people are put at the heart of Oxford Street, the area thrives and businesses benefit.

That’s why I am moving forward with the next stage of my proposals to pedestrianise Oxford Street and revitalise the area as quickly as I can. www.cityam.com/oxford-stree...

When Oxford Street went traffic-free for one extraordinary day, the number of visitors flocking there increased by nearly 50%.

By choosing to be imaginative and bold, we can deliver a better future for Oxford Street: a cleaner, traffic-free world-class public space.

Congratulations to Dame Sarah Mullally DBE on her historic appointment as the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Now, more than ever, Londoners from all communities must stand together, show allyship to our Jewish friends and neighbours, and be united in our rejection of hatred.
In the wake of the heinous terrorist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue, I know many in London’s Jewish community will be feeling afraid. My thoughts are with the families of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz at this terrible time.

Places of worship should be sanctuaries and safe havens for all. No one should feel scared to attend their synagogue, church, mosque, gurdwara or temple.

As we head into the weekend, there will be increased police presence in and around synagogues across the capital.

Our Jewish communities must be able to live and worship free from the fear of harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or violence. The fact they cannot do so is utterly unacceptable.

It is clear that there is much more to do to rid our society of the poison of antisemitism, and we must redouble our efforts to stamp out this vile hatred wherever it rears its ugly head.

Now, more than ever, Londoners from all communities must stand together, show allyship to our Jewish friends and neighbours, and be united in our rejection of hatred.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by the attack in Greater Manchester today.
I’m horrified by the violent attack at a synagogue in Manchester.

I have been in contact with the Mayor of Greater Manchester and the Home Secretary, and would like to reassure Londoners that the Met Police are stepping up patrols in Jewish communities and synagogues across London.

My thoughts are with all those affected on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur.

London stands ready to help in any way we can.
