Long and narrow with a pewter bar top and wood-panelling and a gilded cupola with stained glass panels lighting the central bar area, which has an impressive Victorian tiled front. Lots of portraits and old prints on the walls. 2/3

First opened as a licensed pub in 1674 as "The Garter" after having been a licensed brothel beforehand with records going back to the 13th century. It could be argued that this is the only theoretically legal (albeit non-operating) brothel in the country, 2/3

There are leaded windows, a great ceiling and mahogany-coloured walls with prints of early 20th-century ships. Lots of alcoves and booths and very busy. We drank Otter Bitter and Wye Valley Butty Bach at £6.30. 3/3 #twooldbankers #realale #camra #westendpubs

It’s hidden in a small passage behind Holborn tube and is featured in many London ghost books for its association with Catholic priests once caught and executed there in the reign of Henry VIII. 2/3

...is the huge terrace overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Leigh Woods. There are also small summer bars outside labelled as ‘Gin O’Clock’. Very pricey but worth it for the view! I drank Independence IPA at £7.20. 2/2 #Bristolpubs #realale

Lots of families in booths, friendly staff, wood floors and fairy lights, and apparently a great place to see the sunset (although not when I was there!). I drank Butcombe Original at £5.55 and also sampled the Adam Henson’s Rare Breed. 2/2 #Bristolpubs #realale

It has several levels with lots of exposed brickwork and flagstone floors, and bars on both main floors. Very busy with a football crowd when I visited. ‘Crack’ ales are brewed for the pub by the local Twisted Oak brewery. 2/3
