cranky genX nerd. she/her, married. ride bikes, play videogames. Road racing, MTB XC, cyclocross. PCMR and Apple dickrider, yes I swing both ways. Destiny 2, Stardew Valley and a completely backlogged Steam library.
orthogonal to your thesis however the *way* he answered this question was so charmingly Jonas-coded too. it put me in mind of his extremely polite “if we have someone who can launch me?” radio transmission from the Vuelta 🙃

many years ago when the world was young and dinosaurs roamed the earth I rode some of the “classic” sections of P-R (Arenberg, Pevele, Carrefour) with a friend. It was terrifying, and we were both on hardtail mountain bikes!

my understanding is that at some point he did the Carrefour de l’Arbre something like 7+ times back to back while testing their tire pressure system, enough so that he got the Local Legend on Strava for it. I believe this POV maybe Carrefour backwards? looks familiar.

based on today’s reel he’s been working on cobble training, he did post a wild trestle traverse in the woods but it was on his road bike (which made it even more impressive imo)

it’s almost like he’s baiting the press 🤔

lol despite the many times Lars van der Haar has gone completely off (in his own inimitable manner) - he’s not like a Remco tantrum thrower but he’s definitely gloves off in interviews. And Lars is very popular with most folks, maybe not Pauwels fans but still

such a little gremlin, his social media chaos aura is coming along nicely too and will be a nice competitor to Tibor.
November 30, 2025 at 2:39 PM
he’s definitely a straight shooter, reminds me of his rant last year regarding road sprinters and their innumerable crimes

(unless you’re in the market for some used 40EU white S-Phyre road shoes…)
November 30, 2025 at 1:25 AM
bottom line when my current road s-phyres die, and this happens about once every 2-2.5 years, I’ll probably shut my eyes, open my wallet and get the road Nimbls too. they even have specific soles tailored to speedplay vs other systems.
November 30, 2025 at 1:24 AM
also I wear a size 40 EU generally regular fit in men’s/unisex but when going to wide sizes things get sketchy.

the new Nimbls are also white (only color available) so, like, no pressure!

I’ve been in S-Phyres for years. BUT! here’s the thing. Their new gravel shoes are not compatible with Time ATAC or Crank Brothers pedal systems as the pontoon doesn’t have adequate clearance. And their customer support was snippy with me when I was trying to return them :/
November 29, 2025 at 8:51 PM
I have an extremely wide forefoot (with bonus bunions!) and very narrow heels which apparently the Nimbl last is designed for?

I had Lakes but they don’t have the right shape heel cup or midsole support for my feet. The Nimbl fit like gloves and are perfect which for $700 they better be!

I went shopping today to help with a workshop upgrade my husband is doing and it’s exhausting. But then he bought a very expensive set of Nimbl gravel shoes for me as in his words “you need gravel racing shoes that fit comfortably” (my old MTB shoes are ded) 😍 love that man.

got a Karoo 2 with my Tarmac as a package deal from Specialized last year and since then it’s replaced my Garmin as I like the functionality and integration better with the SRAM groups on my other bikes

Giulio is just the sweetest guy, every interview I’ve seen him in makes him seem so likable.

I adore that he’s found a mentor in Rogla.

brb purchasing all the lotion from Lush

(my husband also enjoys nice things like quality spa type shower gel etc so they’ll be getting our business)
November 27, 2025 at 12:26 PM
i’m going to put that one on his gf, she’s apparently some species of stylist
November 24, 2025 at 9:14 PM
with extra cognitive dissonance for the fact this little gremlin has been posting endless thirst traps on his Insta, I have to take a moment and say “well he’s long an adult by everyone’s standards, I’m not his mum and it’s not my business” but goodness the urge to give him la chancla is strong…
November 24, 2025 at 8:50 PM
hm. I haven’t seen him miss, just nope out and go back to running them if he feels it’s not working.

his gymnastics remount can look awkward if you don’t realize they’re a pommel horse vault disguised as a CX remount, and I will greatly miss them in the field.

this is informed by 1) having been a high level equestrian competitor for a long time in my youth and 2) having learned barrier hops in CX late in life when my risk aversion was considerably higher than as a teenager. Very similar skills with similar potential for failure.
November 24, 2025 at 4:49 PM
Lars always jumps clean though. He’s got very high risk/reward calculations for barriers. and his technique looks great.

Pim and Stringbeans always look millimeters away from disaster.
