I think so many people at the time didn’t know what to make of it. And now to me at least it just comes across as a wonderfully weird anti-comedy time capsule — a blend of Andy Kaufman, Steve Martin stand up, early David Letterman.

I mean it WAS supposed to be somewhat of a joke. SNL. The biggest joke being that the least talented musicians in the band by a mile were the two front men.

I'm of that age where I thought growing up (1980s) we were getting to be"post-racial" and only the worst really thought the color of one's skin determined anything about someone. Oh well. Now not being racist is "liberal" and looking down on people who aren't white is "conservative", I guess?
