It's a well-known extension of the doctrine of absurdity. If someone in the business thinks that a law's meaning is absurd, that can't be what the law means. And any law that would prevent them from doing exactly what they want is of course absurd.

Children also famously never pull their hand out of an adult's grasp. It's almost like there's a reason that the rule is that cars must always yield to pedestrians 🤔
