wip wtuesday. sylvain haunting the syldue narrative once again

Dedue flips the page. Sylvain is in some of the pictures, but not as many as he expected. "He took a lot of these," Dimitri says. "Sometimes he had…bruises…" He ducks his head. "It should have been more obvious, but I was so…so carefree."

From what Dedue has gleaned, Dimitri has been anxious since the day he was born, but he doesn't say anything either way. He tucks the mention of bruises away to ruminate on later, and turns the page again.

There are pictures at the end of the album where Dimitri looks the way Dedue remembers meeting him. Edelgard is there, so it must be summer, but there are neat dates below each picture. Garland Moon, Blue Sea Moon. And then the book stops. In the last picture, Dimitri's hair is shockingly mussed and Edelgard seems to be scolding him while picking a twig out of his bangs. Felix has acne on his cheeks, Ingrid is clutching Glenn's wrist and flushed with embarrassment or sun, Glenn is shading his eyes from the sun, and Sylvain is looking at all of them with a powerful fondness Dedue can feel through the years, through the picture. He's already handsome, even at fifteen, though he's only gotten more so since.

"He's attractive," Dedue says, and feels himself flush. He hadn't meant to say anything aloud.

Dimitri's hands freeze on the book. He turns his head to Dedue slowly, like time will rewind if he makes a sudden movement. Unfortunately for Dedue, time keeps moving inexorably forward. "Oh?" Dimitri says.

"Stop it," Dedue mumbles. "It's clearly an objective fact." The sky is blue. The grass is green. Sylvain Gautier is beautiful. Given the childhood pictures, he was probably a beautiful baby.

There's a smile growing on Dimitri's face. "Yes, but usually you don't comment on it—"

"He's a client!" Dedue says, voice jumping up an octave. "We are not talking about this."

Dimitri bites his lip, and Dedue can tell he's trying not to laugh. "Okay," Dimitri says, and it sounds like a complete lie.
