One of the (many) moments of 1000xRESIST that live rent-free in my head is when Iris's parents are drinking and remembering the 2019 Hong Kong protests. Iris's mom is filled with sadness and reget because they lost, but Iris's dad just has this incredible response.

Kamen Rider Black just had an episode where the villain masquerades as a grifter who convinces people to quit their jobs and "invest" in these special beetles that make golden nests...and then manipulates the market via artificial scarcity of female beetles.

This sounds so familiar...

i think one of my favorite things about love is how it only takes a few spores to infect you. the way the one corner of her mouth is crooked when she smiles. the slight lilt in her voice when she says your name. small things. its always small things. and you blink and you can feel the fibrous tendrils of love wriggling under your skin at all times. when did this happen? when did the spores grow into something so substantial? was i too distracted by the flecks of color in her eyes? was i too enthralled to hear about the fables and follies of her life to notice the thing coiling around my bones? and you heave, on your hands and knees, eyes pointed at the floor but devouring glamorous visions of past present future and there is nothing but Her and you can feel them you can feel the licks of the Thing Inside You as it tests and teases which parts of your brain control which parts of your heart and you know it's too late you know you can't stop this you can't stop it even if you wanted and you know you have to but you can't and you won't and you don't want to and all you want is this it becomes the only thing and you sweat you sweat so much and tremble your skin is a sack it is more clothes covering the very real advent blossoming inside you the you that you were is a mask and its is time to take the mask off and you tremble and scream and cry and there's the sky above you why are you so high and when did this happen why are you dizzy what is that feeling its crawling inside you its shifting let it free let it free let it FREE and your voice is silent as the Thing Inside You pushes through and its color and its darkness its stars falling out of a black sky its a geyser of music its shattering your sternum and your ribs peel back and that THING that motherfucking THING is FREE and youve never felt such fear because you are dead. gone. utterly ignorant of how far back the point of no return was. and you can never go back. there isn't a YOU to go back. there is only the terrible bliss of the Thing on the Outside. it has won. you never stood a chance.
