My father started filming 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' with Jimmy Cagney on Dec. 8th, 1941. After filming was finished, he walked away from a promising Hollywood career to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He spent the duration in the South Pacific - his ship, the SS Taurus, a target for Kamakazi.
