I adore picturebooks and totally believe that the best ones are a truly untapped resource in our schools and that they are works of true literary merit. Absolutely agree with #MacBarnett. (He is really is one of the great picturebook creators)

Day 19 of the #NewIllustrationOfTheDay advent calendar. Craig Smith, Australia’s answer to Michael Foreman, uses watercolours and skilled draughtsmanship to illustrate John Schumann’s 1983 song about the Vietnam War. The picture book, for 8+, was published by Allen & Unwin in paperback in 2014.

Day 10 of the #NewIllustrationOfTheDay advent calendar, recommending books with the date in the title. Ruth Brown is less celebrated than she deserves to be, as seen in this lovely, hand-made, nursery picturebook about counting, subtracting, animals and the lifecycle of plants. Andersen Press 2001.
