We fundamentally disagree here. I believe that Spotify doesn’t distribute enough of its revenue, that it shouldn’t offer preferential treatment to major labels, and that the things Spotify invests in are a net-negative to music and artists.

Thank you for sharing. Kind of wish I kept that record label tidbit for another time, cos it deserves as much attention as the Spotify stuff!

I’m aware that’s Spotify’s argument. By the same logic, would you say part of the reason you’re “able to pay out more” is that the company has demonetised 80% of songs? Wouldn’t Spotify be able to pay out more still if it didn’t continue to invest in AI and offer favourable pay outs to major labels?

It’s always been snide but any artist who participates in it this year is a snake.

It’d be worthwhile if bands and labels took a simple stand and made a point of not participating in it this year.
