Journalists and public health leaders both try to deliver essential information to a fractured, skeptical public.

#Chicago journalists and NPA summit attendees are invited to our next Perspectives event – a workshop on what we can learn from public health comms www.eventbrite.com/e/informatio...

Thank you! I miss you all too!

Ha it really depends on what kinds of tea you like. I’m mostly a grassy green tea person so Arbor Tea’s sencha is my usual go to, though I’m currently enjoying Yunnan Sourcing’s Laoshan Pine Needles. I also drink their Yi Mei Ren Wu Liang mountain black tea for something stronger. Hope that helps!

You have had an incredible run there

no idea why @simongalp.bsky.social wasn't successfully tagged here, I've been trying out Buffer for the first time so I'm probably doing it wrong

That’ll do for now. I’ll certainly remember ten others who should be added, and I might do that later. And if you’re not named here and feel you should be, you’re probably right, and that’s entirely my fault. Thank you everyone listed here and beyond for pushing journalism to be better.

A brief list of small publications that serve communities relentlessly in ways I admire (and often donate.) Their founders, and teams all deserve so much more: The 19th, Capital B, El Tímpano, Scalawag, Sahan Journal, Charlottesville Tomorrow, and every member of the Tiny News Collective.

Kat Duncan at RJI is a relentless champion of audience-centered work. She’s done this for so long, it’s easy to overlook how important her thinking and support has been for so many people across the industry.

Also previous winners, Candice Fortman and Sarah Alvarez made Outlier into a portal to a different dimension of journalism where it only serves people in the most direct ways, with information they desperately need. Countless citations later, our industry thinks differently now thanks to them.

@mitrakalita.bsky.social has won the Impact Award already, but she should probably get an honorary version every single year. With URL Media and Epicenter, she is strategic, creative, and gets results in ways that clearly improve so many lives.

The funders who understand the value of audience-driven work and use their power to build its infrastructure, including Molly de Aguiar, Alicia Bell, Teresa Gorman, Tracie Powell, Josh Stearns, Paul Waters, and innumerable Knight Foundation people including Shazna Nessa, Jim Brady, Marc Lavallee.

Every conversation with @terryparrisjr.bsky.social leaves me feeling smarter (and sometimes drunker.) He is relentless in his desire to prioritize the dignity of his communities, in ways that helps them mourn, feel heard, and/or be empowered with information and pathways towards change.

I’ve been a LION judge for the past few years, and if I see Santa Cruz Local in my list of nominees, I know I’m in for a treat. Kara Meyberg Guzman leads the way for small newsrooms in creativity, outreach, ethics, and pure service.

@maritzafelix.bsky.social started ConectaArizona as a WhatsApp group, and her community focus and creativity inspires and delights me every time. She was voted Community Member of the Year by LION’s members, surprising nobody who knows her or her work.

@yukarikane.bsky.social @profpasha.bsky.social y.social founded @prisonjournalism.bsky.social rnalism.bsky.social, training a national network of incarcerated writers to be journalists & advocates for criminal legal reform by empowering their voices while shifting the narrative. Transformative work.

With Spaceship Media (co founded by Jeremy Hay), Eve Pearlman demonstrates how journalists can convene and be in community with disparate voices in ways that create bonds of trust and authority. Is this what it feels like to live in Montclair and do the school run alongside a dozen NYT writers?

@mikerispoli.bsky.social at Free Press (not that one) has been a constant fighter for community ownership of the news, in ways that serve everyone’s needs. His gatherings are always inclusive and thoughtful, their work insistent that a better media world is possible.
