aethius' (rook) besties were celestine (mage & historian) & valeria (specialist in antiques) mercar. he helped celestine in travels first but they all became close after marriage of the two. valeria died, celestine disappeared, aethius crawled back into his shell but he opened up to neve & davrin.

+ i suspect they encountered evanuris related relics in ruins and arlathan forest so they kinda seek the truth about arlathan
but also it was a problem with game development and timing cause initially we were supposed to see fen'harel agents for example but 🥲

the thing is that they are not a dalish clan, but an enthusiast group of city and dalish elves and others studying elven anomalies and relics. strife, the leader of the fraction, actually has his own story in dragon age books! him and irelin met varric before & learned about fen'harel and stuff

rook doesn't know his parents...he was born into slavery 😭 he didn't even have parental figures because his former dead master obviously doesn't count though cassius arida did teach him about basics of magic and old gods to use him as some sort of silent assistant in his studies 😃

lavellan was raised by her father, a hunter, he taught her to be strong, resilient and ruthless when needed. her mom left to pursue her own goals when she was a child & she holds deep, unconscious resentment towards her for that. she is convinced that no one would ever choose her, just like her mom.

hawke loved his parents. he idolized malcolm and was devastated after his death. he tried to fill that role for his siblings, protect them. he wanted to be a perfect son for leandra, but somehow it was never enough. hawke still thinks that he is not good enough to carry his parents' legacy.
