THANK you for being solution-oriented.

No I do look better on the train. What am I supposed to do about that!
louispeitzman.bsky.social
How do I make my arm do this again btw.

Tunis, New Mexico now! (Still nothing? OK.) I showered and got presentable for no real reason, but I do feel refreshed and ready to mingle with strangers. Or I would if I weren’t also antisocial.

The movie is forgettable, the conversation was not.

Today we’re talking about the 2008 dramedy Sunshine Cleaning with special guest George Civeris.

Plus: Jennifer Aniston’s depressing indies, gay dates at the Cheesecake Factory, and what we mean by “Sundance slop.”

Too sleepy to do anything, to awake to go back to sleep. This should not be legal.

Made it! And actually in an Uber now, 10 minutes from my parents’ house. I will be taking a nap. Thanks for following along!

Naturally now we are stuck like two miles out from the station… Classic LA.

Good morning (?) from Pomona. I forgot that even if you set all the right alarms, the attendant WILL wake you up with a firm rap on the door. Did I really need to be up at 3:15 a.m. for a 4:30 arrival? But also people are bad with alarms and she has to strip all the rooms first, so I mostly get it.

As we reach the Maricopa stop, I feel compelled to note that in addition to seeing and photographing plenty of scenery, I also finished a novel and watched 23 episodes of television. Trains rule.

A little outside of Tucson now, and I’m winding down for the night, even though it’s… 7:30. Not going to sleep, just engaging in sleep-adjacent behavior. Need to be awake enough at 3:30 to pack everything up. God help me.

Obviously impossible to capture, but it’s really so beautiful out here.

I hope to see a little more of this sunset, but for now… This is Pantano, Arizona. I fear it will be dark by the time we get to Tucson and have the next fresh air break. Ah, well.
louispeitzman.bsky.social
On the bright side, a nice view outside of Raso, Arizona.

Well now it’s 4:30 and I have to somehow find an appetite for… dinner? And also maybe go to bed at 8, because I have to get up at 3:30 tomorrow morning. I still love train travel, but I don’t love this.

I realized my confusion. Navajo Nation does observe DST, which I learned when I was on another train that went through there first.
louispeitzman.bsky.social
I’m being informed that time zones do work that way because Arizona is weird as hell. (Something I’ve definitely observed on past train rides, but had conveniently forgotten.)
louispeitzman.bsky.social
I thought that was only part of Arizona! Or is it just part of Arizona that DOES observe DST?
louispeitzman.bsky.social
Heading out of Lordsburg, New Mexico where we had a brief stop. Now onward to Arizona. The conductor keeps talking about how we’ll be in Pacific Time when we get to Tucson, but I don’t think time zones work that way.

Kenzin, New Mexico, if that means anything to you. (It doesn’t really to me, beyond that we’re out of Texas.) Finished my book and going to force myself to navigate a shower soon.
louispeitzman.bsky.social
Yes, I subsequently posted a pic!

And a brief view of Mexico on the way out.

Getting some fresh air in El Paso. Because I got up early and we went back an hour, it feels so much later than it actually is. Also like we’ve been in Texas forever, which is only kind of true.
