New from 404 Media: a startup is selling data hacked from peoples' computers to debt collectors, divorce lawyers, more. People already hacked, now being re-vicitmized by startup. I used the tool, found peoples' personal addresses.

“This is so gross and predatory.”

AI content safety and AI security are two very different things with only minor overlap and we do everyone a gross disservice when we conflate them.

You can have a perfectly well-behaved model that opens the door to massive security risks. Utterly toxic GPT-4chan apps can be secured.

This is a hell of a story about police abuse of face recognition.
I've spent the past year obsessed with how police are using facial recognition. What I found: Police in 12 states have used these tools to find and arrest suspects when they have no other evidence, leading to wrongful arrests

🧵 what I learned from 1,000 docs & dozens of sources ->
Arrested by AI: Police ignore standards after facial recognition matches
Confident in unproven facial recognition technology, sometimes investigators skip steps; at least eight Americans have been wrongfully arrested.
