Mostly posting about folk music -Scottish, Irish, American, and more. Also its musical cousins: Rock, Country, and Punk. I build musical instruments, so expect pictures of cool instruments I've found or built. Maybe the odd post about bikes and films.
Here's a bit of Iron Age jazz for your weekend.

Is it true what they say? That blood relatives do the best vocal harmonies? I reckon so. They sound heavenly.

What did Ronnie Drew sound like when he was a baby? I just can't imagine him ever having a baby voice. His first words must've given his mama a shock. #dubliners #ronniedrew #folkmusic

You know what I love about Dublin and Galway? You can just walk around without a plan or destination until you pass a pub with great music spilling out of it - then dive straight in on a whim. I wonder how many other towns you can do that in. Maybe New Orleans? #dublin #galway #neworleans

I'm going to start a band with all the cool musicians I've met on Bluesky. We'll call ourselves 'The Invalid Handles'

I love a narrow old-town street. Ireland has some of the best.
Possibly Cork City’s most recognisable landmark building - @stanneshandon.bsky.social As seen from Shandon Street this morning. #cork

Yes I know the film was sort of grim but I can't be the only one who fantasizes about packing it all in and moving to Inisherin.

What is it about playing the Banjo that's so addictive? I play other instruments (and love them dearly) but unlike them, I can just go into an hour-long trance plunking away on that 5-string.

Just the most stunning Hurdy-gurdy. Think about the workmanship that went into this. (Museum Zeughaus, Mannheim).

Should I start a Mandolin of the day series? Well anyway, here's a gorgeous one from the Museum of Arts and Crafts - Hamburg.
