This is very helpful to read and to see the layers of the onion being used in this recipe to poison our democracy.

I work in local gov economic development. The economy dependent on revenue from alcohol sales. It’s convenient for the govt to ignore this issue. Some strategic long term thinking needed to change drinking culture from the top - when they’re not drinking in Westminster bars! Therein lies the problem

Fascinating! Didn’t realise two large glasses of wine is binge drinking. I’m amazed I’m still alive. So glad to be 18 months AF.
Hopefully that documentary will encourage more people to be AF.

In the UK there is so much revenue from alcohol tax that people are not encouraged to stop. Is that the same in the US?

It’s totally liberating to be AF!!!

Interesting. I work in economic development in local government. As a former drinker and now pro sobriety, I am keen to explore developing leisure economy without alcohol at its centre. I’m meeting resistance with key stakeholders due to revenue from alcohol taxes. V frustrating!

Great to see recommendations for people with lived experience to be involved in prevention. Also tackling link between suicide and alcoholism. I have bipolar. I decided to stop drinking and I’ve been stable since. No medic ever discussed drinking with me before I stopped. Change is a no brainer!

I love seeing Ant being involved. He’s been through a lot. Hopefully his story is relatable to people and it will help to reduce the stigma of addiction. Nobody chooses to be an addict.

I’m entering my second sober Christmas season. Last year was tough but there’s more acceptance now thanks to these types of articles. 🙏@gracedent.bsky.social

Starting off using alcohol in my teens to manage stress meant that I didn’t develop healthy coping mechanisms at a young age. This stifled my development. Stripping away alcohol in mid life has allowed for well needed self development

I do a lot of walking, listening to motivational podcasts, gym, reading quit lit, meditation, baking, gratitude lists, star gazing and learning new things. I have an image of a bulldozer in my head when I face a challenge and think of a reward for when I’ve overcome the challenge. WBU?
