The first time I got my hands on an iMac G5 in Mid-2010, that's when I knew I had to upgrade from the Power Mac G4. I didn't get a Power Mac G5 until 2011, and used this iMac G5 in tandem with the other daily drivers until then. Had no idea at the time how unreliable this would be down the road..

I made a thing in photoshop today out of a picture I accidentally took on my iPhone 3GS sometime in 2011 using a light filter, a rainy window, and a halogen lamp to mimic the sun. For fun!

Nice that a relatively modern J5 Create 1080p webcam can work with a Power Mac running Leopard!

These are some pictures from inside an Apple chip lab, about 2 years ago when they were testing the M3 and A17 series chips. Thought it was a cool video to watch, seeing this part of the process.

Low End Mac is 0% AI content. I read everything before typing it out myself, make the graphics on my own in Photoshop CS4, and use search engines to find things. No article on Low End Mac was ever generated by AI, it is all human made content. 💪

Decided to hook up the Cinema Display to the parts pile box iMac, feels much nicer to use like this.

Had absolutely no idea this even existed! Looks like a cool little app to have on your PowerPC Mac.. gonna have to spend some more time with it before writing a Mac App review.

Apparently there's a PowerPC app very similar to the Yosemite version of Spotlight, called Google Quick Search Box! Didn't even know about this until today. Gonna have to do a PowerPC Mac app highlight about this - it actually closely replicates the functions of Spotlight including web searches!

I finally figured out how to stop the thermal paste from "smushing" off the CPU die, causing overheating. My CPU cards were missing that little ring/piece which sits on top of the CPUs, which these G5s shipped with. This is what finally stabilized the temps after repasting last time.

The A19 Pro has roughly the same Single core as an M4, and 2/3 of the multi core performance.

Need to get an old PC with both a PCIe slot and a floppy drive so I can flash this BFG 7800 GT to a PPC Mac rom and pop it into my Power Macintosh G4 Sawtooth.

Time for some new paste. It seems to be working well this time around, as none seemed to get pushed off either CPU die, and it can hold 48.5c steady idle on CPU A when on “highest”. The Power Mac G5 feels snappy again! And these heatsinks are pretty decent.
