ND (he/him). Some things I like... coding binges 👨‍💻 | evening swims 🏊‍♂️ | talking about social issues | gliding on wheels and skates ⛸️ | premium quality media 🤖📺 | 80s vibe electronic music⚡️
This is f*ing harrowing to read - it sounds like she is being deliberately framed as a threat for no reason other than wanting to use the loo at work and the clear bigotry of her colleagues.

I think it's interesting to note that in social research, discussions tend to focus on specific research methodologies, principles and frameworks, rather than 'scientific' as a general demarcation - because research validity is contigent on a specific purpose and framing when studying people's lives

It seems like some people who oppose the ND paradigm being considered don't want to recognise these 'upstream' dependencies and think everything can be settled by more narrow downstream research studies.

I suspect the closer one gets (as a researcher studying people in the real world) to a narrowly operationalised 'scientific' research design, the more one is dependent on pre-existing social and philsophical frameworks, like neurodiversity para to shape the research questions into something useful..

... especially the attempt by one contributor to frame inclusion of ND research as partisan, when it's the arbitrary exclusion of that research and perspective that would be deeply partisan.

Appreciate what you're doing to make sure ND paradigm perspectives are properly represented in the Wiki page! The discussion looks frustrating...

I think some caution is needed when interpreting this graph. Most of the apparent 'drama' seems due to the compressed y-axis scale. On a 0-100 scale it would look like a gentle trend. Also, I wonder how much could be due to sampling variation and non-response differences between age groups.

This is awesome!

Friend, there is no contradiction between someone being perfect and being autistic.

It's disappointing to hear that. It's kind of an odd framing too, since what counts as 'pathology' seems like more of a social and philosophical question than a scientific one.

Nice article. I like the framing that unmasking isn't about giving up compassion and respect for the needs of others. It's about also having compassion and respect for myself and my own needs, even when those aren't neurotypical.

Epic!

R for data manipulation. People often think its a clunky stats language - but modern R with dplyr, purrrr and piping (%>%, |>) makes really elegant code (python Pandas is still catching up).
