... We see the same trends globally: rule of law abused by those in control, free media silenced, critics imprisoned, and societies pushed towards authoritarian rule and militarisation. In 2024, more elections were held than ever before, but fewer and fewer are free and fair."

The announcement from the committee:

"However, we live in a world where democracy is in retreat, where more and more authoritarian regimes are challenging norms and resorting to violence. The Venezuelan regime’s rigid hold on power and its repression of the population are not unique in the world..

Here is a strategy that will work if enough people follow it: Don't file tax returns, file law suits.

This is a history of the conflict between Charlie Kirk and Nick Fuentes, which was something I knew nothing about.

Who Was Charlie Kirk, Anyway?
Kirk occupied a uniquely powerful place in the MAGA movement

More than two hours ago, they announced (NBC Special Report) that there would be a press conference in 45 minutes. Hasn't happened yet. Trying to get their story together?

I should have said: System 1 and System 2.

What we need are good formal models (ideally, mathematical models) that explain how this might work. My theory is a candidate.

Also, this theory was explicitly inspired by earlier work on legal reasoning. See my paper in ICAIL 2015 (cited in the thread).

Hi, Tom:

Interesting speculations, but saying that a computational architecture is "brain-inspired" is fraught with difficulties.

Have you seen my thread on LinkedIn?

You mentioned Kahneman and Tversky's Type 1 and Type 2 cognitive processes.

For the most significant articles, you can find gift links with a little bit of search.

@radiofreetom.bsky.social sets a good example of how to do it.

This is probably not what you read, but it is a discussion of possible definitions of an "LLM agent." As you will see, I contributed one of the definitions.

I assume you saw this:

Le Monde reporting that a French scientist traveling to Houston to attend a conference was denied entry to US after a search of his phone & computer revealed messages critical of Trump's science cuts, "which [says CPB] conveyed hatred of Trump & could be qualified as terrorism". Computer confiscated

As I wrote elsewhere: "I favor a strategy of massive tax resistance."
March 18, 2025 at 3:32 PM
Yes, I missed that, but now I see it everywhere.
March 17, 2025 at 2:04 PM
??? Was there something I missed?

I think the Republicans say "Democrat Party" but I don't remember how that started.

Maybe to avoid the suggestion that it was the (small d) "democratic" party?

And check the photogtaph in this article:

"Dr. Claude Malhuret, president of MSF France from 1978 to 1979, reports on the organization’s work in Thailand."
What does it mean to bear witness?

Read further, under Early Life and Career: "Malhuret was elected president of Médecins Sans Frontières in 1977."

Here is an indicator of popular support for the idea. When George Conway posted the following message on Bluesky, it was reposted more than 3000 times.

A couple of (actually serious) thought-experiment questions on where we are and where we’re going:

If a bunch of sociopaths are destroying the federal government from within, why should we pay federal taxes?

And if they succeed, who’s going to make us pay those taxes?
March 8, 2025 at 6:48 PM
One person asked on FB: "How do you file petitions in tax court?"

My answer: "Good question! One possibility is to build a Generative AI system to lead you through the process. So, instead of using TurboTax, you would use this system.

(I have been discussing this idea with a colleague.)"

Imagine what would happen if 100,000 taxpayers followed this strategy."
