Sure, it’s not easy but also no one even seems to be trying? So maybe “balls” is not a useful term, but just politely waiting for Hungary to fix itself is not working and also is crippling the EU in the meantime.

Right but why is Hungary still allowed a veto. It’s been openly fascist for a decade now.

In a league whose revenue is dominated by TV money, over ticket sales, I do not understand why they chose to increase the number of games instead of just increasing the number of weeks.

But it didn’t make sense to do that rethinking when writing your own code, or heavily customizing someone else’s, was hard. If the code part is now easy… someone should re-envision freedombox.org for a post-Claude, post-Tailscale world.
FreedomBox - Personal Server at Home
FreedomBox is a personal server running a free software operating system, with free applications designed to create and preserve personal privacy.

It’s still a lot more complicated than it needs to be. Even with Claude’s help, compare setting up fly.io + backups + access controls to your atproto account to installing the default Bluesky client.

A ground-up rethinking could permanently eliminate a lot of that.

Is Vulture public somewhere?

Unless there’s polling data out there (and as far I know there isn’t any), all this tells us is the emotional alignment of users of gambling sites.

This bet is wrong, but in an interesting way. Enshittification is in large part about maintaining and hosting software, and network effects. Making it easy to write new apps doesn’t fix that.

(So: NEW-GNU moonshot to make self-deploy and atproto social easy when?)

bsky.app/profile/tach...
how much do you want to bet (yeah, you) that anyone who unironically uses the word enshittification won't touch a tool like Claude Code or its descendants to build any alternative, non-shit, software
January 11, 2026 at 9:29 AM
But that’s why a Free Software movement with actual vision (GNU2?) would be frantically building better, human-centric deploy infrastructure right now.
January 11, 2026 at 9:26 AM
Definitely not unique. But yeah, the premise of the bet is busted—rolling your own non-enshitiffied software is only a small part of the game; deployment and maintenance are also expensive even post-Claude.

40%. But my point is that ASML can’t just stop selling to US chipmakers; if they do that the US pulls out all the stops and no one makes chips. And in that game of chicken the EU blinks first. (The EU doesn’t even blink; it does the game theory and quietly hands over Greenland.)

Cool goal! If you need a list of SF books for that bonus, here are some of mine:

I’m a San Franciscan now, and part of how I’ve been growing into that is trying to read voraciously about my adopted city. Here’s my list of SF books, in rough order of how I&#821…

Yeah, we’re talking about 10s or 100s of millions at a time. And these guys looooove talking about how wealthy they are: www.forbes.com/billionaires/

(If any of that wealth stays in California; wealth at that level is pretty mobile, unlike the mere millionaires who threaten to leave NYC.)

Now I’m wondering about comparing Marin to Hong Kong. Thin mega-dense strip + green space + connection to the mainland?

Sadly “Maring Kong” doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as cleanly as Sanhattan. Gotta workshop that.
January 10, 2026 at 10:03 PM
I’d like to throw them a liferaft by making Sausalito as dense as Star Trek thought the Headlands would be. But that would require building a new BART line and lol/sob.

“Once people stop falling for”… so, never? we’re a species of pets, pet rocks, religious fanatics, and conspiracy theorists.

Other parts of the state are also going to their requests to mitigate “oh shit I am on fire, please rebuild me” in the political queue before the sea level rise requests really hit.

Multiple ones in my neighborhood. Which is great, got me listening to Alice out of curiosity, now pretty regular in my rotation (though Turiya and Ramakrishna is the fav)
